i have just bought a bus-link 24x10x40x cdr/cdrw drive. drive came with nero software i believe the lastest version. I want to start copying some games of mine in perticular the sims hot date. I have downloaded clonecd and clonyxxL. Now i know that i have to make a copy the game so that i came change the executable how do i do i make this copy i don't have copy option in my windows files or is this where i make a copy? i am using win98. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!

If you tell us the make of your burner, we can be a little bit more specific

Your bus link will not copy safedisk2!
These writers will:
plextor px-w2410a, teac cd-w524, toshiba sd-r1202 dvd combo drive, lite on ltr24102b. all these writers will do the following:

1)best supported write mode of raw-dao 96
2)buffer underrun technology
3)correct EFM enc####g of regular bit patterns
4)best supported read mode for data and audio raw+96
whith all these options you should be covered untill the next wave of copywrite detection....

PS: there are exceptions to the rules with writers
but these writers above have been tested with clone cd.

Apologies matey, I hadn't heard of that brand and wrongly assumed it was another name for burn proof or similar.
Anyway, KCODD is correct in the most part.
However, your burner is not listed on CloneCD's site as being compatible (doesn't mean it isn't....jjust not tested yet) so it isn't possible to say whether this drive will do sd2 or other protections.
You are the best person to find out as you have the drive! Load clonecd and copy and paste the drives capabilities here.
I'll then be able to enlighten you on what your burner can and can't do.

thanks for the help so foar guys. i believe my drive is or is the LTR24102B this is what show up on the drive properties screen for my drive. so i should be able to copy safedisk2 protection. anyone can help me with details on how to start. do i copy the orginal game to my hard drive (how),then do i open a certain file or extract a certain file(how), then do i add in a fix script (how) thanks in advance to any help you guys can provide.

LTR24 etc sounds more like the Lite-On burner??

Anyway, download ClonyXL from GCW, and cloneCD (do a search).
Start ClonyXL and this will analyse your cd and set the right params in CloneCD.
Copy away. ;)

first of all you make an image of the game in your hard disk!the options you should tick vary from protection to protection but clony xl will give them to you!after making image with NO ERRORS you go and pick up the directory you have put the image and then burn it!write options also vary but there are some standard write options for the most common copy protections(like safedisk1 and 2)like always close last session,amplify weak setors and burnproof/just link(it depends from the hardware)well these are the general about copying with clone cd games with the most common copy protections!
