Your CDs or DVD-R havn't screwed up your laser.
V4 are old have crappy lasers.

You may be able to get a little more time out of your laser if you use Charlie_PS2's guide here (http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=710). All you will need to do it correctly is a continueity meter. The adjustment can be done blindly and will get you more time but will totally fry your laser quicker than if done properly. With any luck you may get up to a year out of your laser still.

Direct and to the point... Remove mod chip, sell version 4 as normal ps2, buy second hand version 7 and reinstall mod chip.

U can play around with version 4 laser with some results but will never be as good as version 5 and 7 and version 5's r getting a bit old now.

pick up a second hand version 7 and u will save urself lots of bovver.

Me an a m8 recalibrated a brand new version 4 laser in a v4 ps2 using an oscilloscope until it was spot on and it still bugged out occasionally on GTA vive an thsi was using ritek dvd-r and slow burning etc ( the backup worked perfect in my version 7).

Cut yr losses and get the best!!

Hope this helps. Regards
