View Full Version : When you burn a PS2 Game on DVDR, Will you do these thing at the same time?
Some of my PS2 DVDR backups skip and some are playing good in my PS2 ver.4.
I am just wondering that is it my fault to make a Bad DVDR?!?!
My computer is running WinXP AthlonXP 2000+ and 768 DDR 333 ram and I use Ritek G03. and when I burning those disk, My newsbin Pro is downloading 125Kb/sec from Newsgroup. sometimes I browser the internet when I am Copying DVDR.
So My question is that when I backing up my Game to DVDR, Should I leave it alone?? or close all the program include Newsbin Pro and stop all the download??
Don't do crap when burning dvd. Dvd burning can be very sensative. I use Zone Alarm(it's a firewall) and hit the lock button to keep any trafic from coming in or going out while burning. It is best to just let your computer sit.
Maybe that's why my DVDR skips all the time....
Also, do you use Norton Systemworks 2003, BH?
WDR
No, but I have Norton Antivirus. I don't disable this but some choose to do so. Try reburning and just let your computer sit.
I thought My computer is fast enough to handle these simply jobs at the same time....
let me try it later....
If you still have the skipping problem after reburning try cleaning your ps2s laser.
Took the words right out of my mouth.
This definitley looks like a laser issue.
Unfortunately with the version 4 u do get problems on account of the laser being pretty poor and there aint a great deal u can do about it.
My m8 had the same problem and we recalibrated his laser using an oscilloscope to best it possibly could be and it still froze sometimes on GTA Vice City and wouldnt even get to the game on The Getaway and that was on ritek G03 DVD-r.
We then dropped in a new laser and calibrated that perfectly and still got the same problem. In the end we sold it and got him a second hand version 5 which plays all dvd-r perfectly.
It still worth giving the laser a clean. If that don't work then I'd seriously consider upgrading to a version 5,7 or 8.
Good Luck
SHOULD your machine be fast enough to do these things at the same time?
Yes.
IS it?
Maybe.
Should you stop doing that stuff and see if the problem helps?
Hell yeah.
Unless you run SMP, your single processor can get hung up on a variety of everyday things, which will bork your DVD burn. It's always best to leave it alone.
Also, Systemworks 2003 is a HUGE FESTERING DUNGPILE. I've completely abandoned it. I use AVG for antivirus, Ontrack EZ Recovery for a disc scanner, and O&O Defrag instead of Speed Disk.
NAV 2003 is the worst offender, the rest is just slow and useless.

Yesterday, I made a copy of Tenchu while I am downloading 125KB/sec with newsbin pro, the game's intro has a little bit of skipping... There has no skipping on the first DVD Copy(it was copied w/o any downloading).
Umm... Maybe that's the problem.
I will uninstall the norton system works and see how it goes.....
Also, All my games which are burn at 1X on Ritek seems to have more skipping problem than burn at 2X... i don't know why....
My first few DVD copies are burn at 2X .... no problem at all....
let me burn the tenchu again with 2x and downloading at the same time....
BTW, I m using WD 100GB(8Mbcache), 80GB(8Mbcache) & 20GB harddrive
let see
It is somewhat common to get a better burn at 2x than it is a 1x. To troubleshoot this whole thing I would burn one at 1x and another at 2x and let your computer sit for both burns. Then compare the results.
the 2X copy doesn't even load in my ps2, the red screen appear...
Yeah I think your laser is the problem. Try cleaning it.
What speed did you use to burn those Ritek?
I burn at 2x, but I also have a v7 ps2 that has a very good laser.

your pc should be fine to multitask
i got athlon1700xp 512ddr
i download, surf net, burn dvdr on fly,and burn cd on usb writer all at same time ,np at all
i would say your problem is laser related, the problem u got is ritek g03 are best readable media i have found
first try cleaning your laser u be surprised how much this helps
if u still got the problems then i say your laser needs adjusting and most likely replacing

what program are you using to burn with?
what dvdwriter do u have?
I have a Toshiba R5002.... Do you use norton systemwork 2oo3?
WLJ!O!
What speed did you use for burning DVD?
I do everything u discribed while burning onto Traxdata, DVDMaster and ritek and get perfect burn every time.
Thats what buffer under-run protection was designed to do!!!!
I think it is either a media issue or a laser problem in yr PS2.
R U burning at correct speed for media?
Although people recomend that u burn as slow as possible, this is just a habit from PSX and burning CDR.
On some media rated at 2X if you burn at 1X u can over cook the write surface and make the dvd-r very difficult to read.
Simple answer, get a ritek or traxdata, turn all other progs off, use recomended software ( Primo2 or record max now) and burn at recomended speed and see what u get out.
Everyone seems to have one problem or another to iron out when burning dvd-r's. Mine is that I have to have my pioneer 104 on an IDE cable on its own. If i plug anything into the slave socket on IDE 1 it has snags so effectively I have lost an IDE device on my PC but wot the Hey, I burn all the dvd's i want for that small drawback!!
Regards, Hope u get it sorted, feel free to pm me for any advice!!
:p
Umm... What speed do i use for Ritek G03 silver top? 1X right? Also, I didn't label anything on top of them, cus i know it may damage the data on the DVDR.
Ritek G03 r 1X and yeah, don't stick anything on it, just burn it with all applications switched off ( screensavers as well) and auto insert notification switched off and the auto finalise box ticked in yr dvd burner settings.
Then BURN!!!!
Good Luck!!!!
the problem is fixed when i turn off the newsbin pro~
sh!t... i need to reburn those games again!!!
I told you to close everything.:)
