Does size really count?

I am a newbie, so forgive me for my ignorance, but I was of the belief that the smaller the movie - the better the chance of dvdxcopy backing up on one disc. That doesn't seem to be the case.

Example - "Rugrats in Paris" only 75 mins long, but dvdxcopy is not interested in copying main feature to one disc.

Why is this so? Spirit is a longer movie but the movie fits on one disc easily.

Any suggestions please. My kids are hammering their movies and I haven't backed them up yet !

Length of the movie is one factor but no the only factor. Movies are encoded differently movie to movie. If you want all your movies to be on 1 disc, except for ones over 2 hours, try DVD2One.

I was afraid that might be the case. Hopefully the quality loss would be minimal for animated movies. Would I be correct in assuming that?

It's a pity that dvdxcopy is a bit hit and miss in that regard. It appears otherwise to be a top quality product.

I personally don't use DVD2One, but from what I have heard there is little to no noticable losss in quality.

What program do you use to overcome the size problem?

I've heard a lot about Instant Copy but the jury is still out on it, isn't it?

I use dvdxcopy cause I don't mind using 2 discs to keep true dvd quality. I have heard one good report and one bad report about Instant Copy. It can't hurt to give it a try.
