Go to www.bigpockets.co.uk they have the new Sony DW-U10A at £279.
Burns DVD-R, DVD-R(W), DVD+R, DVD+R(W) @4X and CD-R @ 24X, CD-R(W) @12X.
Thanks for that but whats the sony like for being able to back up both kinds of media that i want ? ie ps2 / dvd movies.
also if not the sony whats the pioneer dvr - ao5 like ?
i seem to remember that this was a good drive ?
thanks again , just dont want to buy a lame dog as 250 is a fair bit to shell out especially if it wont do what i want it to do

The Sony and the Pioneer will successfully back-up PS2 and DVD.
It's personal choice really.
The thing worth considering is that there are two types of media on the market, -R and +R.
Which media will win the day nobody knows, however, the Sony gives you both options.

Sorry wrong site, try www2.theoverclockingstore.co.uk
Thanks for that ..:)
so far it looks to be the sony then . i find it strange how sony will make a burner that will allow you to back up sony products ie ps2
as usually they can be funny about stuff like that . but hey both options is better than one !

They are both great burners but -r media is stil more widely used and supported by more devices. You don't need the +r option for PS2 games but if your dvd player will only play +r you might consider the Sony. If you don't know what your dvd player supports you can check here (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers). You can save some money by going with the Pioneer as well. The choice is yours.
