Been reading all this stuff about copying CD's and it's got me puzzled. Don't these game manufacturer's know that you are allowed to make a backup copy of your disk for archival purposes by US Copyright law? Section 117 to be exact.

Why then do they pull all this crap on us? I don't want to leave my original, expensive CD in the drive all the time and subject it to wear and tear and possible damage when swapping them out just to be able to start and play my darn games......

Err, that's what I said. By law we are allowed to make backups, so why do these idiots put all that stupid copy protection on the disks? Don't they know it's against the law to stop us from making backups? All I want to do it be able to store my original safely on the shelf and not have to use them to play my games.

Just wondering why nobody calls them on this stuff. I sent the makers Emails when I bought my games and found out I couldn't make backups, and they didn't seem to care. Perhaps a class-action lawsuit would make them listen?

can i assume that you are an american?
from what i know this style of protection is fairly new to america athough it is common in europe asia etc.
no one in the states can be bothered to take action, it is one thing to complain on a forum its another to get off your butt and file a suit.

besides their legal arguement will probably fall down to the fact that yes, you can legaly make a backup, but its your problem if you are unable to copy the cd not theirs.

I quite like it the way it is, this way only a the elite few can make perfect backups of games. besides theres nothing wrong with patches they normaly speed up the game, especialy nocds.
