dvd back up problems

i want to back up my dvds to video but every time i try to do it the screen gose blank then black&white please help as i want to keep my dvds like new

the dvd has a macrovision protection,but you can get a hardware pluggin to filter this out,it costs about 60 pounds uk.search macrovision see what you get

I have a RCA VCR that's about 3-4 years old, and I can directly record DVD movies with it. I use my Playstation 2 to watch and the RCA to record. I don't know if it doesn;t have an old macrovision...
