I'm looking for a modchip that is very easy to install and will play PSone and PS2 originals and backups (CD-R), it must also play DVD originals.

If a get a modchip installed that plays the above mentioned types could I also get Swap Magic PS2 bootdiscs or a gameshark 2 to play DVD-r's?

Please don't reccomend a Messiah 2 or other complicated but superior modchip because I've never soldered a modchip before so I know for sure I would screw it up?

I was just looking around at www.modchip.ca and I noticed a PS2 modchip that looked to be exactly what I'm looking for. It is called
a "Neo 2.2 PS2 Pre-Wired Modchip". Is it a decent modchip? Is it fairly easy to install? Is there an easier to install modchip with the same capabilities?

Sorry I digress.

I know of a chip that any kid could install but the end result is not what your looking for. It's the no-solder mod or R-mod. I installed this chip into a PS2. It claimed to play everything but it didn't. I couldn't get any ps1 games to boot and dvd ps2 games boot with a very long process. I suck at soldering so I bought a premodded ps2. You can send your ps2 off to someone else to get it soldered. Look at the sticky that talks about "boot procedures for all mod-chips". That will help. I guess the bottom line would be the harder to install the better the chip.

The NO SOLODER modchip and AR2 v2 (in your case game shark)
does boot
ps1 originals
ps1 backups
ps2 cd-r originals
ps2 cd-r backups
ps2 dvd originals
ps2 dvd backups.

on my pal v5 ps2 because i've just tried them all.

There's a bit more too it than that though but if you are dead set
against having a
MESSIAH

installed which would without doubt be the best answer then post back and i'll do my best to let you know how to it and what you'll need.

The SWAP MAGIC'S do work but there's a number of dvd games that won't boot for some reason .

Neither G.S or SWAP MAGIC will boot dvd ripped games.

I agree with argo, If your set against a messiah then a no solder isnt the worst choice you could make.
Personally i would go for the messiah though, no swaping, no patching and alot less headaches :)

BTW Stay away from the neo chips of any kind, They are nothing but laser eaters!!

Why don't you just have someone install it for you instead of getting a LESSER CHIP...... You will REGRET it in the long run....

Like Warlock said....The NEO is a laser eater.....:D

Thanks for the warning on the Neo, thank God I posted this message. You all say that the Messiah 2 is the best mod chip around but what do you think of the "Magic 3 No Swap Chip" it seems to have all the same features of a Messiah but costs $20.00 less (www.modchip-sbox.com).

I had a friend install my modchip in my playstation 1 a long time back, is installing a 'superior' chip into my PS2 a lot more complicated and/or easier to botch?

If I get a 'no solder' modchip then with a Gameshark2 I can play all formats of games?

What about a "NeoKey" in conjuction with a gameshark2, will that allow me to play all formats as well?

I just noticed something about the Neokey. The word "Neo" now frightins me  , Is the Neokey associated with the laser eating Neo?

Note: In regards to sending my PS2 to get it chipped. Maybe you'll think this is a unfounded question, but what keeps the person I send the system to form just keeping it? and what could I do if they did so or if they screw up my PS2 rendering it useless?

About sending in your ps2 to get it chipped. Yes they could screw up your ps2 or even keep it. This is why you get somebody reliable to do it. Many people on this board have sent in their ps2 to be modded by Bill at freedomlives.com (www.freedomlives.com) including myself. He is extremely reliable. He GUARANTEES that he will not screw up your ps2. Use him and you have no worries.

All USB mods, no matter if its called a s-box, neo key or whatever all contain a neo2 chip and yes they will burn out the laser.
As far as getting ripped off, it happens every day, Most people get ripped because they are trying to go the cheapest route, Remember you get what you pay for in this world, Send it to a quality installer like bill at www.freedomlives.com or if in the UK talk to dust2dust or Charlie. Both can supply you with a quality chip as well as install. You may find someone who says they can do it cheaper but Dust, Charlie and Bill have MANY happy customers in this forum and all swear by them.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Matt,
you can't get it any clearer than that mate.

WARLOCK, B.G, BIGHAP have well over 2000 posts between
them.

They keep on posting to try and put us on the right track, how many people do you know who would even bother?

Please don't entrust your ps2 to BODGE AND SCARPER console.com

Get it done and get it done right and then happy gaming.

Correct.... They do have basically the same features... The Messiah 2's boot procedure is easier (not by much)...BUT after seeing the problems when the Magic 2 was rushed out, I have lost faith in the Magic line of chips.... For ONLY $20.00 more I would definately go with the Messiah 2....

Yes... They are far more difficult and easier to screw up than a PS1 was....

NO COMMENT...Except you may have trouble booting DVD rips....AND you have to go through all of the BullS&$t to even start to play the game. (but I digress, and have no comment :p )

If you follow what you have been told as far as "who to send it to", You will have no worries or concerns...

NOW...The Decision is YOURS...
