Buying Buildings in GTA:VC.....

Just was wondering about the buildings that can be bought in this game. Whats the purpose? is it for another safehouse to save the game? I went to the strip club but said it was like $8000 to buy and also there was another building it said i couldnt buy at this time. thanks
