Hi,
I've just got a V5 playstation 2 fitted with a messiah modchip.

I've also got a pc with a pioneer a04 dvd writer fitted in it.

So i've installed primo prassi and made a global image of an original ps2 game i've got (Medal of Honour).

I've then put my blank dvd-r (datasafe Gen3) in the writer and searched for the .mi file and burnt away.

After an hour or so i have my backup of Medal all done, i put this in the ps2 and the main screen comes on, then the option screen comes on ie nothing.

I have dvd and cdr backup copies that i've tried on my ps2, so i know it isn't that, so it must be b4 it gets there :-).

So my question is, can u do a direct burn as i have and it work? or does the .mi file have to be patched or something?

I've tried it with Medal and Max Payne so far and both have come out as coasters.

I burnt a copy of the backup dvd i borrowed and it burnt and played fine, which would indicate to me that the media and prassi and pioneer are all working fine.

So PLEASE PLEASE give me a clue what to do, as i'm thoroughly pissed off at the mo.

Thanx in anticipation,

Jay.

Also forgot to mention i'm using xp, with ntfs formatted hdd's.

I personally use Datasafe Gen 3 DVD-R for DVD movies, but not for PS2 as I had the same problem as you. I found that on some games they worked fine and others (I think it was actually Medal of Honour) they were crap.

For the best cheaper media go for Traxdata DVD-R (from www.bigpockets.co.uk or www.121cdr.co.uk at £1.09 each).

Procedure-wise you are doing nothing wrong, just using the wrong DVD-R. Stay away from doing direct burns (on the fly).

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

Hi Paul,

Thanx for responding, after i posted this last night i unistalled primo and dumped all the old files from the Medal copy that i was using and started again.

I looked on some primo burning guides and noticed that i was doing 1 thing different, this was just giving the file a name, but not allocating it a path.

This meant that the read file was being stored in prog files in primo folder with all the other bits. So i made a new folder and tried reading again but this time saving it in the specific folder i had created.

So after it had read it (about 1hr) i started to burn again (this takes about 2 hrs, is this right it's on max?) and then went to bed.

Got up this mornig and just tried it and it's worked :-)

Now i don't know if i did something right or it's just teasing me hehe, so i'll have to have a go at GTA3 next and see if it's consistent.

Talk to you soon,

Jay.

Thanx to both of you,

I seem to have solved the problem by putting each .gi into a different folder, it's worked with the last 3 so fingers crossed.

I now have a new prob lol, that's the fact that it's taking upto 7 hrs to encode (using TMPGEng) a 700meg divx movie for dvd burning.

I'm using a 1.33 athlon with 512meg of DDR266 ram and a mate told me encoding is all processor power, so if i upgrade my processor i could half the time.

Right i thought, so i went to the asus website (my motherboard is an A7M266) where i saw a bios update which will allow me to go to a XP2100 athlon chip. Nice one i though, checked out the price and at about 100 quid seemed a cheap way of speeding up my pc.

That's where the probs started :-(
1) I updated the bios from V1.004 to V1.007 (V1.007 has XP2100 support)
2) Started windows at which point it got to the window with a black background and white text all in boxes telling u what irq's etc (Technical term i know ;-))
3)The machine then went to a blue screen telling me i had a critical error which it defined as DRIVER_IRQL_NOT LESS OR EQUAL and froze.
4) I flashed the bios back to V1.004 and everything was ok.
5) I thought i'm not letting this little f@cker beat me, so i put the bios back to V1.007, installed a spare hdd and then went for a full install with Window XP Pro.
6) It started ok, went throught the bios stuff and got to the windows setup screen were it installs all those drivers, but before i could get to choose a partition to install the aforementioned blue screen appeared :-(
7) That was me snookered.

I know it's not the forum for this but you two seem to have it sussed and i wondered if you had any ideas.

Well i'm off to write an email to asus (don't expect much) to see if they know.

Any ideas i'm open to try,

Later chaps,

Jay.
