COPYING GT3? README!

My advise to all those who are thinking of or actually are ripping GT3, is to first rip a game that is straight forward.
Summoner - This is an excellent choice as it is a piece of cake.
Location of tutorial = http://www.sgt-dan.com

It is part of the dvd ripping tutorial by Gokan (Following this through in full is a good idea!)

This will give you the basics of ripping and will also test that your tools are working such as IML2ISO and CD/DVD Generator.
Location of tools = http://www.epsg.homestead.com/ps2page1.html

After you have made a successful copy of Summoner or another easy to rip game goto http://www.sgt-dan.com and download the GT3 rip tutorial, and all the tools listed that have GT3 in their title.
Follow the tutorial through fully, step for step, checking you have covered everything after each step.

If you have problems copying the gt3.vol use a windows startup disc to boot up the system choosing start with CD-ROM support and type the following from the DOS prompt
a:> C: [ENTER]
c:> MD GT3 [ENTER]
c:> copy e:\*.* c:\gt3 [ENTER]

In this example c: = The Harddrive you wish to copy to.
e: = Your DVD-ROM Drive

If you have more than 1 harddrive E: may be F: or G:
D: Which is normally the DVD-ROM drive is used as a RAM drive when booting up the system using the windows startup disc so drive letters are temporarily changed.

Please follow these guidelines and get experience of easy dvd ripping before attempting GT3 because it is tricky to backup if you don't understand the basics of ripping.

also i got 2 tutorials by same person
1 says downsaple all ,pss files
other says downsample this list delete rest

I've done GT3 already using the guide I drew your attention to.
For the DVD Checks you can use the dvd check remover than can be found on sgt-dans site. For the pss files you can use pss from other games.

There are several dvd checks in the game.
I no longer have my copy as I bought the original cheap! and sold it on, so I can't send U a .pss file.

1st cdr i make i use hex workshop
i look myself only find 1 dvd check
i burn cd it loads screen
the cars in this game colours shapes maybe diffit starts dull gets brigher
if i leave it for a while it will dissapear as if going to next screen then freezes (i left it 10 mins)
i then put origanal in it carries on np
u tell use auto dvd check from sgt dan
2nd cd multi dvd checks removed using dvdcheck rest of cd is exactly same(yes i changed back my origanal dvd check attemt)
now it wont load at all

i think first cd crashes becuase i have a invalid dummy .pss file
it was found on my hardrive (520bytes called autuexc.pss)
i checked its propities it was created same day as i copied gt3 toi my hardrive
gt3 copied to c;\granturismo3 file was found c:autoexec.pss

Don't use autoexec.pss
I think that this is a windows file and not a PS2 one.
Replace autoexec.pss for a valid .pss file and try again

Sorry I think GT3 only has one dvd check I was getting confused with another game I ripped at the same time.
I am going to rip it again soon and will write a step by step walkthrough for it. Zoedee if you manage to get a working copy before I have chance to rip how about you make the walkthrough as you will be more familiar with the ripping process and it will be about a week before I have chance.

ive tried again same first attempt loads first screen so on
i used .pss from playstation1 game
i checked all my ps2 game(only 10 so far)couldnt find 1
surely ps1 game file is ok
if not tell me name game which has .pss on it i will hire it

i burnt anoter with no dvd checks changed
it loaded first screen clearly quickly as normal now :)
improvement but then blank screen
reasons
1 i used ps1 game .pss file 1.02mb(if not ok, name of ps2 game with small .pss file then i can hire it or mail it to me please
2 there is still a dvd check in my sces file but i know its further in then previos single 1 i removed

if i can get answer to first question i have no problem burning few more coasters TO FIND DVD CHECK
i will get there

PS do i leave first position files lba at 23 or do i move it to 287 as on dvd(i done both everytime no difference yet)

Summoner has a small .pss file called thq.pss I think.

How many of the 8 reported dvd checks have you tried removing?

I am going to have another go at ripping GT3 this weekend I think I am off work. So I will start writing my guide when I have produced another working copy. Its a long time since I did it now so cannot quite remember all the steps I took.

gt3 has its own 3.6mb file this still to big
u say all will come back (as u have done it already)u not need ripp it again
put your rip i pc
copy sces file dvd checks done
wit origanl and your i know ofsets (its easy)
extract your ripped version gt3.vol
then u can post .pss file u used
(which game fmv runs in your gt3 surely u know
then i write tutorial
i can include offsets dvd
i can include .pss file
u can post it with my and your name np

I remembered that file as being small. My memory must be going in my old age.
I no longer own a ripped version of the game so cannot post the slus file or anything else from it.
On Saturday I am not working so I will make another rip from my original and then create a walkthrough so that you can see where you are going wrong.

When ripping I always use ps2 .pss I tried ps1 .pss and they never work for me. I work long hours during the week so cannot look at gt3 until saturday when I rip it again. When I have ripped it I will let you know the dvd checks.
Reading through the previous posts it says you have ripped summoner and orphen have you done any other games I ask because I want to know in case I rip a game that you have done and get stuck

i use windows media play to play .pss files
it has to have divx filters applied(i have good movie collecion on pc)
to play sound use program called pss2wav
then play it
i made mistake
i watch .pss (ps1) it has single image
i watch .pss(ps2) it has 2 images split horizontily they look same ps2 must merge both pictures
i need small.pss(ps2)file
but were froim

hard to read but it says download blank.pss from www.###wnz.com but site is down :(

cant b lba file strucure hidden in hex (like atv offroad fury) because files we change r iv gt3.vol we cant choose lba for these

hmm i also played summoner and other ps2 .pss files on media player
they all play same as ps1 .pss files
only gt3 .pss files play double like a mirror image
dont forget 1 file one gt3 small 1 is a .pss but its a diff format all together mplayer wont play this one
for now i carry on using ps1 file
a ps2 .pss file 2996kb is only 5 secs long
a ps1 .pss file 1116 is 2 sec
size tiome ratio same
but both play normal on media player
a gt3 .pss plays but is split in 2 pictures as if they r merged together by playstation
and 1 file only menu_bg2.pss is diff format to rest mplayer wont play this one

diff extractor and rebuilder
so simple done it 20 mins

I can then go through it and let you know how easy it is to follow and whether there are any problems relating to different operating systems and hardware setup. Did you find out how many DVD checks there were? It has been bugging me for days cause I can't remember...
