would i have to use a specific patch with specific mod-chip in order for a backup to work properly?

It ALSO depends on what you are using to backup your games.......

If you have a 100% Clone CD compatible burner, it will copy EVEN the protection on the CD.... Making a 1:1 copy....

What mod-chip do you have?
