I dont have a DVD-R so I don't care much about being able to burn these, but is there any way to make my pc READ the stupid things? Whenever I put one of them in the drive my pc locks up without even trying to open the cd in explorer. The second I put it in my dvd rom it locls up. My dvd drive is "Compaq DVD-ROM DVD-144" (Its really a Pioneer drive though, just renamed to Compaq.) Is this drive incompatible with GC discs or something?

Well people have made backups according to this board so it must be possible to SOMEHOW read them. You said there are exceptions, jsut what are these exceptions?
Also the reason I want to be able to read them is to rip stuff from them, like movie files for example.

so far it has only been possible to image a whole disk (not write yet!!) not the ability to rip sections, such as movies, plus even if u did then there is currently nothing that would feesable play that format.

The movies would be in files, not as data tracks on their own. Plus its VERY likely the movies will be in MPEG format. Game systems have been using formats that are compatible with PCs because they are easy to make. The saturn used a Cinepak2 format. The PS2 uses a MPEG2 movie multiplexed with a MP2 audio file (they are in .pss format), the Dreamcast uses a MPEG1 movie multiplazed with a MP3 file (forgot the extension, .s-something). So its very likely that the movie is either in some type of MPEG or other readible by pc format. Nintendo likes to rush things (The GBA is a good example) so its HIGHLY unlikely they spent the time and money to make their own video format just for the gamecube.
And my problem is the SECOND the cd gets put in the drive the pc freezes up, I dont even have a chance ot try accessing it. Its not freezing up when I try to make an image or something becasue I never get the chance to.

fair do's well if u find out ne thing the be sure 2 post it!!
if u read through the previous post which u say u have then it says that the only method so far of succesfully being able to image a disk is from clonecd 4, and by passing the windows cd drivers!!!!!!

And how would I do that? It dosent matter if I can read the cd directly or an image, the files should be readable in the image itself too.
