Newbie needs walkthrough of dvd ripping process and software needed

Hi there , sorry for the Question but i checked the archives and found nothing...I used to have an ALL-TECH site that had a great walkthough but lost it during a reinstallation of windows. And it didn't work on any dvd's newer then american pie anyways. Thankx for the help

PS: the hardware i have is a cd-rw and a dvd-rom ......no dvd-ramor dvd-rw
