Hi, I'm using a v1 USA ps2 with both a gameshark 1.6 and 2.01 with the Neo 2.2 modchip installed. Now, everything was working ok the first week, the ps1 backups boot perfectly and the onlyPS2 CDR game I had Maximo, worked ok with the Gameshark swapping. Now, the PS2 refuses to boot any PS2 backup(freezes at Gameshark/loading game screen), yet the PS1 backups work ok. What gives? What can I do?

Thanks in advance

It's possible the neo chip may have damaged your laser. Did you install the capacitor on pin 2?? Have you tried cleaning the laser with a lens cleaner??

You didnt put a capicitor on pin 2 of neo 2.2 this is bad

I think your laser is srewed up get a capicitor on pin2 now to prevent anymore danger ok ?

then try clean it with a clean cd maybe itll work

Sorry to say it's most likely to late- Whats worse is i dont know of any site that sells lasers for v1 PS2's. You may have to buy a new one.

but that doesnt make sense,if the lasers were dead, why does everything else work. This includes:

PSX and PSX2 originals
PSX backups
DVD movies

the only thing is the PS2 backups. But the capcator the seller of the chip said that was to stop unneccessary clicking? Explain this to me plz.

Sorry mjk729, i guess old age is catching up with me as i mis-read your post the first time i read it. You are correct, if you can boot original dvd and compact disc games as well as PSX backups without any problems then it isnt the laser or the chip. It sounds like a booting problem. Try reflashing the GS2 dongle by pressing reset while holding down R1,R2,L1,L2 and start with the GS2 cd inserted into the console. Hopefully that will help.
BTW GS2 v1.6 will not boot dvd-r, it must be 1.9 or better, also i would reopen my console and install a capacitor, or better yet a origa or messiah.

It probably is the DVD laser diode, which is in spec to read pressed DVDs but unable to read the much lower reflectivity DVD-Rs. That is assuming your DVD-R is in good condition.
