the plextor is good, i bought one recently. I do have a few problems with it tho:

It doesn't burn properly at anything above x16 in windows 2000
It doesn't recoginse 90 / 99 min CDRs
technical support is not good from the response i got

it also has some problems burning safedisk 2, but that should hopefully be sorted out in the next firmware download

if I were you, i'd go for the Lite-on x32 / x40

Wow weird ... all the things you mention are stuff it's supposed to do. Check there :

Or is CDRinfo giving false info ?

Maybe you should upgrade to WinXP. Or go back to WinME or Win98SE. Have you tried other OS's than Win2K ?

But yeah, Horze, it seems everyone agrees than Liteon are great burners. So if you can find one (which I seem not be able to do ... :/), don't hesitate.

hey,

i'm running a triple-boot system with 2K/ME/XP, and ME/XP are fine when it comes to burning CDs, its just 2K. I think it has something to do with my IDE settings or something... i guess i'll just have to look into it more. (Damn motherboard)

Cheers.

Do a search on pricewatch.com for lite on cd recorders and you will find all you want, I have noticed it is hard to find them local here in Indiana, I think maybe they are really a oem burner which makes them hard to find in stores? I know dell uses them in alot of new machines.
