View Full Version : What wire for Messiah?
I am a Newbie here so please excuse me if this is a really dumb question....
I have read some of the articles about the messiah chip and keeping the wires short and all, but I was wondering if the messiah chip comes supplied with wiring?
If not, what grade of wire is needed and what diameter etc?
Surely the thickness of the wire would have some effect as well as the length.
Thanks in advance.

The wire thickness is all about having them thin enough to fit onto legs that are about 0.125mm wide! Only the Power and ground cables would be ordinary thicker wire.
For the business wires (about 21 of them) you'd nee 31 awg = 33 swg wire; either Kylar (sheathed - heavier to work with) or enamelled copper which is lighter and easier to work with. Enamelled copper is the pro's favourite - used for transformer windings.
Charlie_ps2, you really are the bees knees! What a superb answer - giving grading info like that really shows that you know your stuff!!
I now need to know what version of PS2 I have.
My Model number id SCPH-30003
My Serial Number is B0759784
It also has S01-0759784-Q on a white strip on the label.
This does not tie in with the other posts about serials beginning U0, U1,U2 etc.
This PS2 was exchanged by Sony (under guarantee) when my original PS2 went wrong.
Any thoughts anyone?

PAL serial numbers are not as easy to deal with as US.
How many screws on the bottom? Is there an R in the serial number? If you open up the PS2 what is the motherboard series printed as GH-xxx?
10 screws = v3
8 screws =v4 or v5
8 screws with R in serial no = v4R or v5
Currently my PS2 is still in warranty, so I am not going to open it up (split the sticker).
There are 10 squares on the base which I am presuming cover the screws (6 on the base and 4 around the raised base).
I am just preparing myself for taking the plunge and opening it up, but delaying as long as possible to keep the warranty running.
BTW currently running unmodified PS2, AR2v2 with card swap technique very happily, but some CDR's and DVD rips will not work (such as Tony Hawks 3, GT3 a spec). Is this normal and can I expect them to work once a messiah is fitted?

Where is the best place to buy the 33swg wire?
Also how much do I need to buy and is it best to colour code the wires? (ie red for PWR, RESET, etc and black for A-N points?)
