just a question to ask if anyone can help me i have a ps2 with the neo 2.2 and the ar2 cart to enable the disk swap. but my main concern now if whether or not it will play backup dvdr cds?
the model number i am using is scph 30004 r
does this mean its a mk4 or a mk5?
i was told something about a screw being in the expansion box and you could see if it is a mk 4 or a mk 5?
but the bay in the xpansion slot is empty and no screw
if anyone can help i owuld be very grateful
many thanks

p.s whats the best dvdr writer pioneer?
Go to www.psxcopyworld.co.uk/
Look under tutorials and then boot methods and you will find the appropriate answers to neo 2.2 and dvd's etc.
A simple way to i d your ps2 model is this.
Pull of the expansion bay cover, if it's made of plastic and thin metal strip it's a v4 board inside .
If it's just plastic then it's a v5 board.
There are other checks involving screws and stuff but this just seems a quick easy method.
Finnally allthough i personnally haven't got one the pioneer ao3 seems to be everybodies choice at the moment.
I say at the moment because the word on the lines is that this year will see many more dvd writers come on to the market with even better specs and prices.
If you can waite awhile it might be worthwhile.
Hope this helps, let me know how you go on.
ARGO.

This is definitive. It is a v5 if you run your finger on the top inside edge of the expansion bay. if there are three screwws, two on the plate and one recessed in a flange it's a v5. If not, it's a v4.
If it's a v5, then the NEO2.2 cannot boot DVD-Rs. Finished. You'll need the Origachip or the Messiah.
If it's a v4, then it gets complicated because somme versions of AR2/v2 work with DVD-Rs others don't and there is a version (I've forgotten) of AR2/1.9x that boots DVD-Rs by the method to which Argo referred you.
Whether you have a v4 or a v5, I strongly advise you to dump the NEO2.2 and go for one of the two chips I've mentioned. DBD-R booting is much easier (Origa = single swap, Messiah = No Swap).
