Which cdrw & software to buy ?

I just sold my Phillips 4x4x32, and now im ready to get a ~REAL~CDRW. Plextor came out with a new one and Ricoh too- "A DVD Combo". I need some experienced advice on what CDRW and which software is really the top of the line right now. I have made too many frizbee wead-eaters in the past.
Mostly I backup PC games, audio, but I will be doing some DVDs too as soon as as get a DVD player too. I really dont RW much, I just reburn a new R-cd if needed. I am wanting least trouble as possibe, Which means I am willing to pay a few extra $'s.
Thanks....oh yea, does it make a difference between IDE or USB connection? I have both available..

First go for a scsi drive (with scsi card), then IDE, USB are unreliable, as data always freezes down usb. If going for a burnproof drive then IDE is ok. anything faster than 6x on IDE without burnproof can cause buffer under-runs (system dependant-varys). These DVD/CDR-W, are OK, but these drives can only read DVD not Write DVD.

Note: On non burnproof ide drives, if copying disc to disc from a copy in the first place (more so an audio copy) burning at more than 1x can cause buffer under-runs.

Definitly get a Plextor 16x10x40 i got one last week and they are awesome, it's burn proof so you can surf the net or somthin while you are burnin, it will do a full MP3 album to Audio CD in under 4 mins!!! I f i was copying an audio CD before i had to read and burn at 1!!! Not any more a can burn an audio cd full speed and the whole thing is fine no jitter or anythin!!
Its a beast of a burner!!
