Right, I need to buy one of these:

my main aims are:

be able to play audio cd's burned in as many cd-players as possible.

be able to backup my games succesfully without much hassle.

have good tech support.

I've had a look at both, the plextor website looks helpful and has up to date firmware/software etc. for support, the lite-on website was no-where near as good. took me about 20 mins to load it up.

Which would you lot recommend, being the experts that you are, ?

I've got the Plextor you speak of and haven't had any probs with music but later Safedisc 2 protection is has problems with.

IT depends on the SD2. the lite-on cando it and the plex can;t. The rest i am not sure of. BUt i know that PLex are damn good quility burners, and lite-on too. They are both quality and i think it will be a difficult choice to make

i went with philips. much better. why? because im in college, it saved money, and it was every bit as capable as the others. at least, until sfdsc 2.51 came out.

I paid $85 from a company on pricewatch for my lite-on 24x, which is less than buying a phillips!

go kcodd! my credit card is currently (*ahem*) broken, otherwise i'd have shopped for cheapie on the internet.

forgot to mention: by the time all the xmas specials got run on the philips, i believe it cost 80 $ plus tax.
