View Full Version : neo 2.2 and V5 problem
I hope someone can help me with this one.
I recently put the neo 2.2 mod in my Version 5 PSX2. All originals (PSX1 & PSX2) work great. Only about 20% of my PSX1 backups will work (they ALL work in my modded PSX1). So at least I know the Modchip was installed correctly.
None of the PSX2 backups I make will boot. I am using GameShark2 Version 2.01. When I press "x" after the disk swap, the system either Locks up (on the GS menu) or the screen goes black, I hear the disk spinning and that's all. The game never boots. I have tried All sorts of different media (Memorex Black, Dark purple, light blue, Verbatim data life plus, Generic) nothing seems to matter. I have used Nero 5, CDRWIN, and Adaptec. All do the same thing.
Any advice anyone could give would be GREAT!
Thanks!

There are some timeing issues when fitting a NEO on a new v5.
You must press X as soon as the drawer clunks shut, not before & not after.I had a lot of problems in this respect but once you get used to the timing it workd every time.

If Wildthing's suggestion doesn't work, then it may ,matter which games you tried. If they are protected games, how did you defeat that protection (patching) if you didn't use CloneCD?
This is what i do to boot ps2 on my ver5.
Boot AR2 cd1, when it gets to 1st screen and cd stops spinning press eject.
Press start game, then start game with no codes.
Swap ar2 for copied game and press X then eject (to close tray)
works 98% of the time and sometimes works on EA unpatched games.

DVDR BOOT METHOD
Procedure for Action Replay V2.01 and the V5 (R) PS2
„h Start the PS2 with the AR disc and cheat cartridge in memory slot
„h Select Action Replay Codes
„h Highlight Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX2 code
„h Press start game
„h Press Eject button and insert an original DVD close draw
„h Wait for the PS2 to read the original DVD ,around 10-15 sec¡¦s
„h Press X to start WITH CODES and then X again
„h A error message will appear saying TOO MANY CODES
„h Now do the knife trick and Swap the original DVD with the backup
„h Press X to confirm error message
„h Press O (circle) twice to enter the main menu
„h Press X to select START GAME
„h Press X to select WITHOUT CODES
„h Press X again and then X again the DVD backup will now Boot
Long old process but it really works

Good luck
I appreciate all the suggestions.
I have tried timing the pressing of the "x" as the draw clunks closed. It is still not booting my backups. I have used CloneCD and it still didn't boot.
May I ask what media brand is everyone using? Is it Silver/Light Blue/Blue/Dark Blue/Black?
Thanks Again!

Verbatim Dvd-r Datalifeplus AZO
Colour Pinkish
I use cheap and cheerfull white top cd's and use clonecd, nero, blindwrite, cdrwin to burn cds and all boot no probs @16x.
What ver is the ps2 again ? if its ver5 i beleive only the AR2 ver2.01 will work to boot ps2 copies, the one that came in the dark blue or purple coloured box, the light blue ar2's dont seem to work.
As for the psx games not booting , i have the same prob, I had to re-burn my cds at a lower speed, 4x or 8x, any faster and the ps2 wont read them.
