I was just wondering if there's any difference between how the 80min TDK CDRs work in the 50 pack spindle and the 20 pack with the stacking trays or in sleeves? I was just wondering because I picked up a 50 pack spindle, and noticed that when I opened it up and looked at the bottom of the cd's that they're not as darkly colored as the ones in the stacking trays. I was wondering if this in anyway affects the way they hold data or the type they can hold. Plus on the packaging it says "Data CD-R", that doesn't mean anything does it, like that it can't be used for audio or anything? Just wanna make sure before I wind up burning a few useless coasters with these. TIA

um.. yyyees... sounds like you might have brought some ritek TDK's.
Grab yourself CDRIdentifier - its available at CDMW under CD Utilities or something like that... Chuck the CD-R in your burner and see if the beauty's factory is TDK Corp. or Ritek co.
The light tealy-blue TDK cdr's are made by RITEK and the darker, more verbatim-coloured CDR's are made by TDK.
Data CD-R mearely means its probably not quite so great for audio, but theyres not much difference... except maybe if its a quite bad RITEK CD-R, as most RITEK CD-Rs are... but dont worry you'll be able to burn audio to them.
Their quality, however, may be debatable (if they are RITEK).
Personally I think there is some aspect of inferior quality in Ritek CD-R's. Also, if it says MADE IN TAIWAN, its a giveaway that its not going to be of the highest quality.
Hey people, take a look at this link:

I can't beleive someone like TDK would even contemplate using RITEK for their cd's. Perhaps they were intended for the far-east or something. Talk about a good way to screw up your corporate image..
Iv'e used RITEK discs for a while up until recently. Now I know better. For the price we're paying for them in the UK, we can get proper, well-known brands for virtually the same price. Like the previous post Iv'e just givenup on them and don't advise their use.
RITEK have improved the quality of their product - but I am still unconcinced about their lastability; they still offer virtually no protection against scratching. Iv'e burned to these discs and left them on a shelf. A few months later without hardly any usage, these cd's look dirty and some even fail to be read in my pc. Some have "flaked" before Iv'e even unwrapped them out of their spool. You know those leather disc wallets you get that can hold 124+ cd's? Well I put some well-used RITEK cd's in one and quite a few just cracked in the centre, unable to take the strain. The one's made by Verbatim and Memorex didn't suffer this problem. It seems this combination of heavy usage and heavy storage are too much for RITEK..
In my opinion if you're gonna stick with RITEK, I'd advise you get the one's under the NUDGEN brand. Of all the one's made by RITEK these gave me the least trouble.
Thanks for reading. Happy burning :-)
