Quick question 'bout Scart

I'm new here, so I thought I'd start off with a bit of a greet to you all: Greetings all.

Now that the pleasantries are out of the way! :D I read in one post some mention of a 'fully loaded' Scart lead, that will, I guess, convert NTSC transmission to PAL. Although my PS2 isn't chipped (yet), my mates is, and when he had it 'round my place, most of the games were black and white. I figure, from what I read, that it's possible to get one of these Scart leads, and then I won't have to worry about getting a new TV, or better yet, patching anything to PAL.

Just wondering if someone could enlighten me a little? Cheers very much,

It's really quite sad when the first person to reply to your post is...well...yourself. Anyways; I just read something else that might explain why the games where in black and white. Does it have anything to do with the fact that my TV isn't capable of 60Hz? I know this for a fact since I've played Burnout on it and it runs a test to see what Hz to play at (if you didn't know that).

So, is that why the games were in black and white? Or, is it a mixture of both that, and the fact that they may have been NTSC? What's the diddly people? Oh, and is the best solution basically to get a new TV? If it is, then I'm buggered as I really don't have the cash.

if the pic is in b/w, it means you are using a composite cable, and your tv is not ntsc capable.
if you use a RGB scart cable, your picture will be in full color. if it wasn't 60 hz compatible, it'd run through, not just be b/w.

Well, we're not exactly at your service here and you normally have to wait until someone who can help is able to reply.

Anyway, what sort of TV does your friend have?

That apart, the BLAZE RGB Scart lead is what many/most PAL TV users deploy to play NTSC games in colour. The System Configuration on the PS2 should be set to RGB video. I've not seen an Euiro-Scart TV that won't work in this way although I've seen one post to that effect. So buy the lead and try it with your friend's PS2. If it doesn't work, then it's patching or a new TV.

Dude, you kinda got the wrong end of the stick there. The whole "...sad when the first person..." was me taking the piss outta myself. Needless to say, some people may just have agro problems, or maybe they just like jumping to conclusions, or maybe, as I said, they caught the wrong end of the stick.

Anyways, not that any of this really matters, just wanted to say cheers for the info. I have no idea what TV my friend has, and that I'll have to check out this Scart lead and see if it's of any use.
