Hello;

I'm pretty new to the PSX backup scene, and I'm having minimal success here. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, though I have some guesses. I'm getting very frustrating so I would appreciate your help.

I have an external mod chip on my older model PS1 ( a 'game enhancer 3' to be exact ) but I find that, when I swap in my burned CD's, nine times out of ten they do not start up. The tenth time, it will come up but will stutter and spurt, the audio and video is not smooth and usually unplayable.

I am burning using an HP 8100+ CD Writer on Acer 16x Multi-Speed CD-R80 minute / 700mb. Not the best equipment or media. Is there ANY way I can succeed using these?

PLEASE give me your suggestions, I would like to become successful at this so as to be a contributing member of this board in the future.

Thanks,

Jericho

you should use verbatim datalifeplus 650mb discs
that should sort it for you

Yeah I kind of thought it was the media that was killing me. Where do you buy yours? It seems that everyplace I shop around here has nothing but Acer and Memorex. I did find one place with Fujifilm... ( sigh )

Thanks for your response. I'm not giving up yet...

You should try the burnt CDs in a modded PSX in order to determine if it is the CDs or the enhancer. I have a Liteon 24X burner and I back up games on every brand of CDs including the generics, with almost 100% success.

I tend to agree with backitup u should get an internal mod and this should solve your problems. I dont think the media u are using is of major concern, any brand should be fine 4 psx backups.

the reason i have said its the media is they are useing 80 min discs i have tried 80 min discs in my modded psx 9002 i can use all 74 min discs with no probs

Acer 16x Multi-Speed CD-R80 minute / 700mb.

80s dont work in any of the 3 psxs i have
i use all kind discs still no joy
some of the older psxs dont like anything other than verbatim is some thing else i have learnt since i have been copying which is about 2 years now

no disrespect but thats my findings

Right, the CDWriter and the CDRs should not cause your backups to fail. Which program do you use because Nero is not good for PSX backups
Use CloneCD or CDRWIN for games that need to be cracked
Email me at tom.drayson@btinternet.com and i will send you all the programs you need with cracks and step-by-step instructions

The problem is the plugmod, what you have described,(The tenth time, it will come up but will stutter and spurt, the audio and video is not smooth and usually unplayable.) is a common problem with plugmods. Get yourself a internal mod-chip and your problem will be solved.

Well, looks like I started a debate. Is it the media or the mod chip? Here is an update that should interest all of you.

I still haven't been able to find Verbatim CD's anywhere around here, but I picked up a pack of Sonys (the blue dyed ones recommeded by GameCopyWorld) at OfficeMax. Every game I have burned on them has booted up and played like a dream.

So, in my case anyway, it seems that the media was the problem.

Thanks again for all of your help

Just to let you know, I use a plugmod AND those cheap silver fingerprint-happy 80 minute CDs, and they work great.
