View Full Version : No color and screen roll?
I ordered some back-up copies and 3 of them come out in black and white and my TV screen rolls as if the horizontal adjustment is off. It makes the games unplayable. What causes this? The site that sold me the games said that my TV may not be compatible with PAL format. Is there any way to fix this problem?
BTW, the games are Street Fighter 3, F1 Championship, and LeMans 24 Stunden. Is it my set-up...or are there any known issues with these particular games?

yes the are in a pal format so you need to put them into ntsc format so you recopy the games and put a patch in or could use a scart lead or a boot disc (you can use this in the U.K. i don't if it will work in the U.S.) or have your psx rechiped with mod chip which will play pal games
The 3 games in question are the NTSC versions which, without getting technical will give the result you have mentioned. (its basicaly down to the differences detween the PAL and NTSC Tv systems and the number of visible lines on the screen)
There are many ways around this problem,
1 if you are connecting the PSX directly to the TV then the TV is not NTSC compatable, so try connecting through your video's scart socket instead (your video maybe NTSC compatable!).
2 you could patch the offending games with an NTSC to PAL patch.
3 You could have you PSX re moded to cater for this as many of the model's can run NTSC games without any trouble simply by introducing a extra wire link.
There are other ways around the problem but these are by far the cheapest routes to follow first
The other routes involve buying an NTSC compatable tv or video, or an extra piece of hardware called an NTSC to PAL converter.
Where can I buy a NTSC/PAL converter?
The NTSC to PAL Convertor is a device obtainable from Maplins stores. It costs c. £60 and is the best investment anyone can make as you can avoid this wretched patching for PAL. NTSC backups are played through the convertor; PAL backups are played with the convertor removed (otherwise they come out greyscale).
You will beed a different AV cable or the little adaptor that changes SCART to AV (the yellow/white/red jacks).
Thanks to Spooky for letting me in on this post!
