Has anyone installed the neo2 on a UK ps2 without using the 1uf capacitor and have it running with no problems ? I ordered it with the 1uf capacitor but I don't know how to place it so I'm just gonna leave it off. But my question is : is this safe ?

i would recomend you use the capacitor
if you look at the site below you will find fitting maps for it ...it goes on pin 2 of the chip its easy to fit ...have a look

Thanks but I've already been to that site. I know the positive leg fits into pin 2 but what about the negative leg ? Where do I solder that or doesn't it need to be soldered ?

the capacitor solders in-line of the #2 wire. the positive to the #2 pin on the chip by a short wire, the negative to #2 pin on the board using another short wire. Do not connect the capacitor directly to the chip or the board. USE WIRE!!!

thanks very much man. That's what I wanted to know. So it's the same as the wire of point number 2.

Warning DOH! Leave your ps2 as it is. I just placed the modchip and it completely messed up my system ! I can't even play normal games anymore, the lens makes this awful noise. If you're not used to soldering small almost unseeable pieces and wires I would keep my greedy paws away from the unit. Damn this sucks !

Yeah I agree if you have had no experience with chipping the normal psx then I would err on caution. Its not difficult but there is some tricky points to solder to. The capacitor is fitted so you dont have to play with the adjustment on the lazer. Mine worked fine without it but played with it any way and fitted the cap just because I can. The cap leg can be soldered direct to the chip leg with no probs then you take wire to pin 2 point on the board, it also stops the cap floating around.

Toaster is right I soldered my cap right to the #2 leg on the chip also the thinner the wire the better
