does using a black cdr mean that you don't need a mod chip?

No. You still need a chip, but *supposedly* you have a better chance of it working if you burn on black CDRs...but I've yet to get one to work.

The only people who benefit from these black cds are the manufacturer and sellers of them.
They are EXTREMELY poor quality cds and only recommended for coaster making.

Seriously, CK? I've had more than one person tell me they work fine...and they did work fine for my DC games.

I will have to agree with the weed smokin robot!
i went out and purchased a ten pack when i heard they were the best, To make a long story short i have 3 in the car with some of my favorite tunes on them, the other 7 are at the local garbage dump. And i dont smoke weed everyday, just once in a while, BC bud mostly.

I actually have better luck with black
cdrs, the one i got is 80mins...black bottom
and silver blank top. They work the best
for my PS2 backup, for example, i tried to
burn a copy of StarWar Starfighter on
Mitsui and Maxell CDR, it works, but for
parts of the game, it hang and u have to
eject the disc and put it back in. But with
the black CDR it work perfectly, even tho
they cost like 20cents more i think its
worth it

Well it's obvious that the results with black CDRs are mixed. I'll just experiment until I get a PSX or PS2 backup to work...or until I go broke......whichever comes first. ;-)
