Hi,

Can anyone help with a few questions relating to an sbox usb modchip that I have just bought for my PS2?

I got it from citywidesolutions.com and the install page ####://www.citywidesolutions.com/install.html tells me that to find out my version of PS2 the serial number should start U1-4 my serial number (UK PS2) starts with a BO. Any idea what version this makes it (It says that it is an SCPH-30003). I want to make sure I connect the right areas!

Assuming I get the above right, what can I expect with this modchip. I am hoping to get my games from a supplier in the UK who does them on CD-R (I hope already cracked etc). Will the sbox cope with that?

Anyone got any advice to share about the sbox ,other than dont use it, as its too late ;)

There is nothing wrong with a s-box usb mod other than it wont boot dvdr backups without doing the cog-knife, card swap methods. The best thing to do if you are in doubt as to what version PS2 you have is to match the board to the install diagram. Some titles do require patching to load with a usb mod but not all. I have a usb-mod and never had a game i couldn't get to load, when i got my dvd writer I didnt like the use of the card swap for dvdr backups so i am now waiting on a chip. Most games that are now being released are dvd so odds are you to will advance to the point to where some games will be dvdr backups and you will need a chip instead of the usbmod. You may want to change your mind and get a chip..But anyway, good luck i hope it all works out for ya.

thanks for the really useful advice.

If I find a supplier that sells games on cd-r, I take it that these are not dvd-r type copies and that my sbox should be able to play them with no problems?

Thnx,

Some games do require patching. As long as the person you are purchasing the backup from has correctly patched these backups for use with a usb mod you should be fine.
