need help for these steps

I'm trying to apply the patch to NHL faceoff 2001. I'm using the cdrwin to burn. I'm using the instructions off of megagames.com. I'm stuck on these steps:
Extract the Patch Archive to the path containing the CD-Image file.
Open a DOS-Box/MS-DOS Prompt and change directory to the path containing the CD-Image file (and patch).
I don't know dos commands. Could someone please help me with this?

what are you using ppf-o-matic or xps?

I'm using the pal4u v1.23. I don't know alot of the terminoligy that you're using
