HELLO I WAS JUST WONDER IF THESE NEW DVD BURNERS ARE WORTH THE INVESTEST OF 500 TO 600 DOLLARS? WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH A DVDRW THATS DIFFERNT FROM CDRW? AND CAN YOU STILL COPY DVD GAMES WITH CDRW? IS IT COMPLICATED IF SO?

THNAKS FOR THE REPLYS...

Worth the money? That's a matter for you.

What can you do? Well, although you said DVD-RW I take it you meant DVD-R(ecordable). CD-RW won't read in a PS2 but oddly enough a DVD-RW will! The DVRs (as the single sided DVD burners are known) will reliably burn PS2 DVD games according to the steps set out at ####://www.psxcopyworld.co.uk

Unless you go into the horrors of DVD ripping to CD-R, copying a DVD game to a DVD-R is the simplest method of making backups of such games.

I got the pioneer a03 and i love it, i can copy cdr backups as well as dvdr so i would say they are well worth it. Like Charlie stated, that would be up to you though, If you have ever tried to take the time to sucessfully rip a dvd game then you know the time consuming, hair ripping process this can be. Besides, by the time you copy 10 dvd games the burner has paid for itself.

THANKS ALOT!
SO IF I DO INVEST IN A DVD BURNER DO I NEED A DVD DRIVE TO READ DVD GAMES?

Charlie

No - the DVD burner will read the DVD. You use it to copy the game to disk and then burn it back to DVD-R. As I mentioned, tutorials for PrimoDVD and Nero are on ####://www.psxcopyworld.co.uk .

Make the DVR the master device on the secondary IDE channel. If all your existing devices are IDE, consider dumping one of them - probably the reader because you don't need it. Then have the reader/burner as the slave on the secondary IDE port.

ANSWER: If you have an old modchip that allows a DVDR game to be played and if your new modchip doesn't, then it should be possible to leave the old one in and use its boot method. That's what I did.

ANSWER: DVD Region X is the simplest way to boot CD backups. Depends on your modchip as to DVDR method and you may well need GS2 for that.

The OrigaChip US will play DVD-Rs via the DVD Region X boot method.
PAL/JAP originals will boot directly (CD/DVD) as will US originals of course
Backups will boot via the DVD Region X

I've forgotten whether you've got a Jap PS2 or a US PS2. If it's US, the OrigaChip US boots DVDRs. If it's JAP, then you need the original modchip.com chip to boot DVDRs; the Origachip will boot original imports and all backups.

Easiest way of determining if the game is PAL is to play it and on a US screen it'll be black & white or jump around; JAP games won't do that but they'll be in Japanese! There are other ways like going to the CD and using NOTEPAD,.EXE on the file called SYSTEM to see if the game is PAL or NTSC.

If you have another modchip now and are playing backups OK, then probably not. There used to be a tutorial on playstationmods.com but that has vanished. I have it as a 1,5MB zip file that is difficult to mail!

The main beauty of Origachip is that it plays (along with everything else) import originals. these will require no laser adjustment because the PS2 was designed for original pressed disks.

Depends what country you are in. Origa don't appear to have a US distributor. Madeira Games in UK are UK distributor for Origa and can chip any PS2 (they did mine) or can presumably procure any PS2 and chip it.

With the correct diagram, any PS2 Repair Centre as advertised on the web can chip it for you. For example, anyone in the USA who successfully did NEO4 can do Origa.

I understand your feeling of uncertainty but this is relly a case i=of "is she is or is she ain't"!!
