OK, I have copied Dave Mirra to my computer using CDRwin and then patched it using APA Patcher. Now i'm stuck. How do I burn it back onto a cd. I tried using CDRwin but it didn't seem to work. Any detailed instructions would be helpful. Thanks!

When you copied it to hard disk, there should have been a BIN file and a CUE file. You patched the BIN file. Now you run CDRWin; you select the first Icon (Burn/Record); set a burn speed of 4x (8x max on branded media); supply the path to the CUE file via "Load Cuesheet" and then hit Start Recording. No other boxes to be checked. That will burn the patched game back to CD-R.

Thanks charlie, but I still have a problem. On my version of CDRwin, the RAW mode button is permanently checked. There is no way to uncheck it. Is that the reason my burnings aree stuffing up? If so, can I fix it? Thanks

No, that's not your problem. If you are making an image file to hard disk, CDRWin forces RAW on reading to ensure that a complete image of the CD is copied, otherwise it would only take 2048 bytes (out of 2352) and separately construct the remaining 304 bytes based on the reader's view of error status; that would be wrong because protection data is often placed into those extra 304 bytes.

For the sake of completeness, there are a further 96 bytes of data available, known as sub-channel data which, as PS2 games are not audio CDs can be used by the author in a variety of ways.

So we need the usual stack of info now:

1 Which Dave Mirra game are you copying (PAL/NTSC-U/NTSC-J)?
2 Which is the reading drive - full model name?
3 Which is the burning drive - full model name?
4 Which version of CDRWin are you using?

I provided some advice to you on 09-Dec which you should be following (it includes tick RAW on Read). Dave Mirra uses sub-channel data but I have copied it with CDRWin 3.8D, applied the Universal Patcher Utility Disk patch and burned it back to CD-R as per my 09-Dec instructions.

So you probably have one or both of two problems:

I Your CDRWin version is naff. 4.0a Beta is bad news and should be dumped
II Your burner or reader isn't up to the job

Do come back to me with the answers to the questions or a confirmation that CDRWin 3.8D has done the job.

The burning details are as follows -
I am using a Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-115 12X
I am using a Matshita CD-RW CW-7586 8X4X32X
I am using a PAL version of Dave Mirra
And the CDRwin version i was using was version 4.0a beta, but i have just got 3.8f. Will this version work better?
Thanks

First off, I would try with 3.8f. It's fine for burning, it's just a bit quirky on my PC in that it lurks after being closed and prevents my ISDN connexion from working. So I reverted to 3.8D.

Second, I've been unable to fix for certain the suitability of your reading/burning kit. I was looking for CD-G support on both devices as that handles all cases of sub-channel data. I'm not sure as to whether Dave Mirra requires this stuff. So I recommend that you download CLONYXL (search the web on that key); put the CD in the 7586 and get CLONYXL to scan the CD. (ClonyXL won't recognise the DVD-ROM). It will tell you on the botton quadrant what CloneCD paramaters should be used for the CD. If cloneCD accepts thos paramaters, reading from/writing to the 7586, with "Don't repair sub-channel data" checked, then the game should work. So ...

Third, if the first step above doesn't work try the following with CloneCD:

1 Take the disk image to your hard drive. This will produce a CCD file (describing the CD structure); an IMG file (containing the CD image); a SUB file (containing sub-channel data).

2 Rename the IMG file to *.BIN and apply the Universal or ASA Patcher to the BIN image.

3 Rename the BIN file back to IMG and use CloneCD to burn the whole lot back to CD-R. Check "Don't repair sub-channel data".

I know this works on my equipment.
