I just got introduced to dreamcast backups and have run into some problems with games that dont selfboot. I can play all selfboot games but cant seem to run a bootdisk. We have tried bootdisks that are known to work properly on other dreamcast consoles, we have made new bootdisks with Nero, DiskJuggler, Clone CD and others. We do get the spinning animal but after we carefully put (the dreamcast is spinning very fast still) the game in, nothing happens (it doesnt load). It only recognizes it as an audio (blue screen). All the games and bootdisks work fine on friends consoles. I have tried everything.... by the way our dreamcast was manufactured Aug 99. Please help!! Could we have a prob with our Dreamcast?

I don't think there is a problem with your DC. Try burning the game in MODE2 w/ DJ3...

Do you mean try burning the boot cd like that? I havent burnt any games myself. I have bought some backup games and have had some given to me. I know that they all work with the bootdisk just fine on other machines. I just cant run the bootdisk on my machine for some reason. After I put the bootdisk in, it says please insert game cd (the little animal spins)... I do that (while the dreamcast is still spinning!?) and nothing happens... it doesnt load. I dont know what I am doing wrong... Thank you for your help... I have so many games Im just dying to play!

Not on the boot disk, that seems fine.. Just on your ISOs or whatever you are using (except CDIs).

90% of the games released now do not even use a boot disk. Unless they are old, or JP...

So you think I have a problem with the burnt games and not the bootdisks? When you load the bootdisk, isnt the dreamcast supposed to slow down or stop spinning (to put the game in)? Mine doesnt. Since I cant seem to get the bootcds to work on my dreamcast, is my only option to burn all my games that dont selfboot into selfboot games? There is nothing left to do?

When I burned Wacky Racers as a NON-BOOT disc using Roxio Easy CD Creator, I burned three coasters before I figured out that it had to be (A). Burned in MODE-2 / CDROM-XA, and (B). The session (possibly the disc) had to be closed/finalized. I found the best results was MODE-2/CDROM-XA and SESSION AT ONCE.
