View Full Version : Help with extracting sa2 files, not a newbie!
i have managed to copy heaps of selfboot games but not sa2.
so i have copied all the files from the cd to my HDD.
if i burn a audio track, and then just add the files i have extracted to a cd, will that work?
please help
NO.
Read the Echelon self-boot tutorial. It will tell you EVERYTHING you need to have and do to make a self-boot disc when you have the files.
yeah i allready have that, but it says i need a ip.bin for it to work. but there isnt an ip.bin.
i'll try it without the ip.bin and see what happens

We are talking about Sonic Adventure 2 here aren't we ? You say you've copied other selfbooting games why should sa2 be any different ? If it is Sonic Adventure 2 why are you pissing about with ip.bin files ?
yeah this is sonic 2.
i dont know why it wont copy, but it just wont. There isnt a ip.bin on the cd, but in the echelon selfboot guide it says you need one for the guide to work, thats why.

Right i'm assuming you've downloaded either the Hooligans release (which doesn't work properly) or the echelon one (which does work after you patch it) either way they're both already self-booting so just make an image with Diskjuggler and burn it like any other game. As a matter of interest what method have you used to copy the other selfbooting games ?
i have the echelon version
i cant make an image of SA2, thats why i have tried it this way.
normally i use player-recoder on DJ3 to copy other games, or just create an image and burn it with dj.
but i think i found the problem, i cant seem to copy any game (even games i have allready copied) so either my burner is screwed or my computer is screwed. :)

FYI: I've discovered that the generic IP.BIN from the "zerotools.zip" file works fine in a pinch (if you don't already have an IP.BIN file on your image file).
yeah, i have managed to find and ip.bin now. but i have a prob now.
when i explore the cd there is one folder and one file:
d:\1stread.bin and
d:\sonic2 (this folder contains all the game files etc)
so do i put ip.bin in the first directory with 1stread.bin (d:\ip.bin) or do i put it in the folder 'sonic2' (d:\sonic2\ip.bin)
thanks for all this

Neither. You follow Echelon instructions. You don't have a copy of IP.BIN on the disc with Echelon's tutorial. It's patched in after you make the data.iso file. Just make sure the IP.BIN is in the selfboot directory (where you're working on the self-boot, not what's going on the disc), and copy the 1st_read.bin to the selfboot directory as well. Burn your audio.raw to the disc, ##### the msinfo (usually 0,11702), and use BINHACK to hack the 1st_read.bin & IP.BIN files. Copy the 1st_read.bin back to the data directory (overwrite existing file). Make your data.iso file using mkisofs, then insert the IP.BIN using IPINS, finally using CDRECORD, burn the data.iso to the disc.
It's worked for me every time except once, and that was apparently a bad hack (Wacky Races).
Good Luck.
thanks for that.
i have done all that up untill the mkisofs part.
i have tried it about 5 times but my comp crashes. it crashes at different times, the closest it got was 95%!!!! complete.
so as i said b4 my comp must be screwed, i'll just wait till i get a new one.
anyway thanks for all your help guys!
